Palangal is a 1981 Malayalam film, written by John Paul Puthusery, with story by Manih Mohamed and directed by Bharathan, starring Nedumudi Venu, Zarina Wahab, Bharath Gopi and Shankar. It is a love story of a man who works on the railway lines and a woman who lost her lover on the railway lines. The majority of the film was shot in Shornur due to the persistence of Bharathan, as he always wanted to hear the horns of the trains in the whole film. Coal fired engines were used in those periods and engines were brought from Madras for shooting this film.
